IIn the MCLB, Jeffrey Dewulf and Jens Getteman seem increasingly evenly matched. In Sijsele, a sub-municipality of Damme, they split both races between themselves today. But it was Dewulf who ultimately came out on top and took the overall victory.
Anyone wanting to watch motocross in Flanders this weekend had to head to Sijsele, a sub-municipality of Damme. The MCLB circus was a guest there for the second consecutive year for the Memorial Eric Bleyaert.
Exactly 20 Inters passed the registration table. Remarkably, they were all familiar names that we had already seen at other MCLB races earlier this season. So no guest riders from VLM or VMCF, and that is really a bit of a shame…
Jens Getteman certainly didn't let it get to him, as the East Flemish rider once again managed a blistering start. With Jeffrey Dewulf, Ryan Van Hove, Mattis Meersschout, and Greg Demeulemeester, the familiar names were immediately at the front. Avo Tack had a slightly slower start but immediately began a charge through the field, leaving Gilot, Demeulemeester, and Van Hove behind. This brought Tack to fourth place after four laps. At the front, Getteman was still leading ahead of Dewulf and Meersschout. With three laps to go, Dewulf launched his attack and overtook Getteman, putting the race in a decisive position. Dewulf won the heat with a 9.4-second lead over Getteman. Meersschout, who had long since dropped back, followed more than 50 seconds behind winner Dewulf. Alessio Roelandt was the best 8cc rider in eighth place.
It was Getteman who took the holeshot again in the second heat. Behind him followed Dewulf, Meersschout, Xim Wynant, and Avo Tack. For Wynant, the pace was a bit too fast, causing him to drop out of the top 5 after just one lap. Behind leader Getteman, West Flemish riders Dewulf and Meersschout briefly played cat and mouse. But after the short skirmish, it became clear that only Dewulf had the speed to match Getteman. The Husqvarna rider nevertheless remained in the lead for the entire heat, although it did get exciting at the very end. At the finish line, Getteman held a 1.6-second lead over the pressing Dewulf. Meersschout finished third again, this time 57” behind winner Getteman. Because Dewulf had a better time over both motos, he also won the overall classification. Xim Wynant was the best MX2 rider in seventh place, but the victory in the 250s went to Alessio Roelandt.
