SA dance of wits in the MXGP. Due to a complicated collarbone fracture and a shoulder problem, Mattia Guadagnini is out of action for the rest of the season. The likeable Italian is being replaced at Van Venrooy Racing KTM by the equally jovial Rick Elzinga.
Guadagnini finished a strong 3rd in the Internazionali d'Italia MX1. In the World Championship, he was still searching for consistency, although he finished one race in the top 10 in Spain and also regularly made the top 10 during qualifying races.
MXGP rookie Elzinga (23) also started his time at Beta MRT Racing with an injury. However, the 2022 EMX250 champion never found his rhythm on the Beta RX 450. The Dutchman was teammate of Jago Geerts at Beta.
In 2021, Rick already finished third in the EMX250 on a KTM. Elzinga, active on Yamaha for many years, achieved two podiums in the MX2 World Championship and, given his physique and riding style, should thrive in the MXGP. This weekend, the three-time Dutch champion makes his debut for Van Venrooy Racing KTM in Teutschenthal, Germany.
