Mike van Grinsven won both heats of the Dutch National Quad Masters Championship in Reusel. He took full advantage of current champion Zienecker retiring twice while in the lead. Ruben van Lith and Julian Veldman joined Van Grinsven on the podium at the end of the day.
When the gate drops for the first heat, it is Van Lith who looks set to take the holeshot, but Van Grinsven boldly puts his quad in front of Van Lith entering the first corner. Fighting for the lead, they dive straight into the woods, and Van Grinsven re-enters the starting grid as the leader after lap one, followed by Van Lith.
Behind them we see Maessen and Zienecker, while Vlaeymans is also performing strongly in sixth place, just behind Roks. We have to look a little further back; at that moment he is riding around eleventh place.
The race really gets going when Zienecker breaks away and overtakes Van Lith. With only van Grinsven ahead of him, the chase for the lead begins. For several laps, Zienecker sticks to the leader's rear wheel, but van Grinsven doesn't give an inch.
Meanwhile, Van Lith is riding a lonely race: a clear road ahead of him and a gap of about fifteen seconds to Vlaeymans. In lap six, we see Vlaeymans come into action; he overtakes Maessen and moves up to third place.
Then, in that same lap, Zienecker finds the moment.
With an overtaking maneuver, he takes the lead from van Grinsven. But fate immediately strikes for the German.
In lap nine, Zienecker runs out of steam. End of the race for him.
Van Grinsven inherits the lead, calmly builds on a comfortable advantage, and wins. Behind him, van Lith follows at about thirty seconds. Vlaeymans rides an impressive third, with Maessen in fourth and a strongly advancing Veldman right behind him in fifth at the finish.
In the second heat, it is Nouwen who gets off to the best start and takes the lead of the field.
But that is short-lived: Van Grinsven and Zienecker waste no time and quickly pass them.
After one lap, it is Zienecker who is once again in the lead, followed by van Grinsven and Maessen. Van Lith is once again doing excellently in the race, in fourth place.
While the leaders build up a huge lead together – 17 seconds already in lap four – it is Vlaeymans and Veldman who start an impressive chase from tenth and twelfth place respectively.
In lap five, it is van Lith who overtakes Maessen and takes third place. Everything seems under control, until we see the same thing happen again in lap eight: Zienecker stalls. Once again, the race is over for him, just when the battle for the lead was so exciting.
Van Grinsven accepts the gift for the second time today and thus takes the lead.
Behind him follows van Lith, and behind them Maessen, Vlaeymans, and Veldman in a private fight.
Then the final phase begins. Veldman overtakes Vlaeymans and launches an attack on Maessen. With one lap to go, Veldman manages to take third place. In the final lap, Maessen does not give up easily and strikes back. Nevertheless, Veldman manages to pass him again and finishes third, behind Van Lith in second place and winner Van Grinsven.
