It seemed as if VMCF was permanently parked in the Kempen. Poederlee, Retie, Oud-Turnhout, and this coming weekend there will be racing in Gierle. And this for a federation that previously focused mainly on races in central Belgium and Wallonia.
“It is actually a coincidence, and at the same time, not really,” says VMCF chairman Ivo Peeters. “It is not easy to put together a full calendar. So I am not waiting for someone to come and make a proposal. That is just not how I operate. I was born and raised in the Kempen myself. I know many people there, and that helps. I also know many farmers here, and they know that I am fair with them. Hence the cluster of the last four weeks. On the other hand, municipalities are quite accommodating and willing to cooperate for a one-off event. They know us by now, and they know that we act honestly and cause virtually no nuisance.”
Even before we dared to ask if it wasn't getting monotonous, the chairman already gave the answer.
We close the Kempen chapter in Gierle. After that, we return to familiar locations. First, we head to Genk for the permanent Horensbergdam circuit. On May 10, we have a premiere. In Retinne, they are preparing a circuit that will be a tribute to multiple world champion Georges Jobe. That is scheduled for May 17. After that, we cross the border into the Netherlands. Axel (Zeeland) is also a permanent track. Genk is hard, Retinne is hilly, and Axel is pure sand. There is no more variety than that. We conclude a packed month of May in Moresnet. That is an absolute highlight. This race is organized by the Kermiscomité. After that, we cross the Dutch border once more for Gemert (North Brabant). Dutch riders will also turn up there, just as they did in Axel, incidentally.
In the run-up to the match in Gierle, Ivo wants to say something.
We schedule Sidecars on Saturday. We have a good connection with sidecar enthusiasts. That is why we want to give the 'carts' a chance. That is why the track is at least 10, and in most places 12 meters wide, with sweeping turns.
