NHusqvarna Factory Racing delivered an excellent performance during the 4th round of the 2026 World Motocross Championship. The MXGP of Sardinia was a demanding test in the deep sand of Riola Sardo. On one of the toughest circuits of the season, Kay de Wolf celebrated his first MXGP podium with a third place, while Liam Everts (third) took his second consecutive MX2 podium.

The sixth edition of the Sardinian GP once again lived up to its reputation. On the 1750-meter-long Riola Sardo circuit, the deep beach sand created relentlessly tough conditions. Strong winds and constantly changing lines did not make things any easier.

Everts carried his strong form from Switzerland into the weekend. He qualified fourth and delivered two controlled and determined races. In the first race, he got off to a good start, joined the leading group, and worked his way up to third place with a decisive overtaking maneuver on Janis Reisulis late in the race; he held that position until the finish.

The second MX2 race was even tougher. A difficult start left Everts outside the top ten, but he was able to climb back up quickly. With calculated aggression and smart line choices, he climbed to fourth position halfway through the race. After briefly dropping back to fifth in a late battle, he reclaimed fourth place with two laps to go and held his ground under pressure to finish third overall for the second consecutive GP. The result also takes him to third place in the MX2 World Championship standings.

De Wolf, fully immersed in his impressive transition to the MXGP, showcased both speed and his signature sand style this weekend. After a seventh starting position, he rode a strong first race, climbed to fourth place, and narrowly missed the podium.

The second race, however, was exceptional. An incident at the start threw him back to 24th position, but the Dutchman responded with a sensational charge through the field. Within a handful of laps, he had reached the top ten, and halfway through the race, he was already fighting in the top six.

At a relentless pace, de Wolf continued his advance in the closing stages. A decisive overtaking maneuver on Romain Febvre ultimately put him on the path to the podium, and he finished third. His remarkable comeback earned him third in the final standings with a 4-3 result — his first ever MXGP podium, and a jump to ninth place in the championship.

With momentum on the rise, the team now travels to the Italian mainland for the MXGP of Trentino in Pietramurata on April 18 and 19.

Kay de Wolf: “This podium means a lot. Sardinia is one of the toughest circuits on the calendar and in that second race it was very difficult right from the start. I think I was almost last, but in the sand you can always find other lines and I kept believing I could come back. Every lap I passed someone and got better into my flow. When I was in third, I gave everything to make it to the finish. Taking my first MXGP podium like this, in these conditions, is special. I have always loved riding in the sand and this feels like a big step for me in this class.”

Liam Evert: “It was a very physically demanding weekend — the sand here really takes you down, so I’m happy to come away with a podium. The first race went well; I was able to ride at my own pace and make the overtaking maneuver at the right moment. In the second race, I didn’t have a good start, so I knew it was going to be a fight, but I stayed calm and just worked my way to the front. In the end, it was about managing the pressure and making it to the finish. Two podiums in a row and climbing to third place in the championship is very positive, especially at a circuit like this.”
