VToday, the third round of the EMX127 was completed in the sand at Riola. Next week will be a completely different story on the hard track in Pietramurata. But that is for next week. Let's first deal with what happened today in Sardinia in the lightest class.

It was quite a bit cooler, partly because it was only half past nine, when the gate dropped for the EMX125 for the second time in Riola. Moritz Ernecker, yesterday's winner, easily squeezed out the holeshot. At the first timing, he was followed by Jorge Salvador, Riccardo Pini, Lukas Leok, and Emil Ziemer. The Belgians were doing well, with Seth Priem in 13th and Torre Van Mechelen in 16th. Timo Heuver was between them. Unlucky Sleny Goyer was around 10th place. He would soon move up with Ricardo Bauer, that other unlucky rider from yesterday.

Leok and Salvador could not keep up the pace. The odd one out was the Estonian Aston Allas. An eager Goyer first passed Pini and then Allas as well. Bauer saw it happening and moved along appropriately. At that moment, Ernecker was leading with a considerable advantage over Ziemer. The Swiss rider was soon put under pressure by the Goyer/Bauer tandem. After three laps, Priem and Van Mechgelen were still comfortably in the top 15. Heuver had dropped out.

In lap five, Goyer easily overtook Ziemer. The gap to the leader was +10 seconds. A lap later, Bauer also took third place from Emil. The major positions were then as good as settled. Conclusion: an Austrian in places 1 and 3! It's been a long time, I think.

Then we had to take back our words. It took quite a while for Goyer to close the gap on Ernecker. But once on his wheel, a half-attack was enough to take the lead. Bauer had to drop the pace then and consolidated his third place ahead of Ziemer, Leok, and Arno Cazet. And the Belgians? Torre still in 15th, and Seth in 16th.

Goyer pulled away significantly from Ernecker, while Moritz easily maintained the upper hand over Bauer, Ziemer, and Leok. Debutant Van Mechgelen took a solid six points. Heuver had managed to claw back to seventeenth place. Unfortunately, Priem had dropped out of the points in the final stages.

For Goyer, this series victory was a welcome boost. Bauer's third place also brought solace after a dark Saturday. For Moritz Ernecker, only positive news, despite the loss of the series which I believe was factored in. He became the overall winner and, after 3 events, has a 32-point lead over Bauer. And the performance of Van Mechgelen is promising; he proved he can hold onto his position. That will surely happen for Priem as well.
