SSimon Längenfelder won the MX2 race in Riola Sardo today. It could have been Sacha Coenen, but after winning race one, he crashed in the restart and thus threw away a potential victory. That went to the German defending champion. Sacha Coenen and Liam Everts finished second and third.

First series

Sacha Coenen (KTM) shot out of the starting blocks like a comet, followed by Simon Längenfelder and Liam Everts. Kay Karssemakers and Cas Valk were immediately well positioned in the top ten, while Mathis Valin had to retire on the very first lap. Triumph riders Farres and McLellan had a poor start and had to fight their way back from outside the top ten. At the front, Coenen opened up a gap, while a surprising Julius Mikula rode impressively in fourth place for a long time.

Coenen Sacha

Just past the halfway point, Janis Reisulis took third place from Everts. Längenfelder then pushed hard and almost completely closed the gap on Coenen, but the leader countered and won the first heat in the dunes of Riola Sardo. Längenfelder finished second, ahead of Everts, who overtook Reisulis again in the closing stages. Mikula held his ground and finished a creditable fifth.

Second series

Head-start king Sacha Coenen lived up to his nickname and led the field once again. Simon Längenfelder, Guillem Farres, Maxime Grau, and that pesky Julius Mikula were his closest pursuers. Liam Everts had come through in ninth place after a few hundred meters.

Janis Reisulis hit a rough patch during the opening lap and lost several places. Shortly afterwards, Sacha Coenen did what he does just a little too often: crash. Starting from P9, he now had to write a different story with the throttle of his KTM. Simon Längenfelder now led the field ahead of Farres, Mikula, Everts, and Zanchi.

Sacha Coenen then put on his giant stride and stormed back to P3 in no time. In his eagerness, he made a minor swerve but lost a few meters to the top two again. Camden McLellan managed to overtake Everts in the closing stages. Guillem Farres squandered a potential podium spot by crashing. However, the victory went to Simon Längenfelder ahead of Sacha Coenen and Liam Everts. The German defending champion thus wins the Sardinian GP ahead of Sacha Coenen and Liam Everts.

Next week, the GP riders are back in action with the Trentino GP in Pietramurata.
