PThe start of the EMX125 on a sun-drenched Sardinia and a 'real' lowland track of heavy sand. You could – literally – walk over the heads of the dunes.
From a sporting perspective, it was an immediate blast when Red Plate Moritz Ernecker grabbed the group by the throat. However, after a few hundred meters, he was surprised by Jorge Salvador and Riccardo Pini. Also joining the attack were Sleny Goyer, who would go on to play a starring role, and Emil Ziemer, the ADAC winner in Grevenbroich.
Salvador came under fire from both Pini and Ernecker. He couldn't hold the lead, and Pino was the first to pull alongside. Shortly afterwards, he had to let Ernecker go as well. Meanwhile, Goyer had found a strong rhythm and immediately launched attacks. First on second-placed Ernecker, and not much later, he also displaced Pini from the front. He seemed to be comfortably occupying that lead position. Until Goyer's bike suddenly sounded like a soup mixer and he lost all power. He was passed by Pini, and Sleny had to abandon the race, grinding his teeth.
Just when Pini thought he was firmly in the lead, he was surprised after all. Ernecker stormed past him. Pini managed to hold onto his second place. The gap to Ziemer, David Cracco, and Bertram Thorius was more than sufficient.
Timo Heuver drove a fine race. Starting from tenth position, he still managed to finish sixth. However, that was the only points gained for the Belgians and the Dutch. Jannes Vos finished in 22nd place. Torre Van Mechelen and Seth Priem retired early from the race. The driver from Arendonk after three laps, and the young driver from Lichtervelde did not make it through the first lap.
Moritz made excellent progress in the standings. Ricardo Bauer remained scoreless and is now 40 points behind. Andrea Uccellini finished only tenth and trails Bauer by 4 points.
