After Switzerland, Jeffrey Herlings (Honda HRC Petronas) also won the qualifying race in Sardinia today. The Bullit finished ahead of Romain Febvre, Tim Gajser, and teammate Tom Vialle.

HHerlings had to fight for his position in the opening corners, but ultimately rode solo to victory. In the World Championship standings, Herlings climbs to third place, eight points behind leader Lucas Coenen.

From the middle of the starting grid, Herlings immediately launched an attack. Vialle dived to the inside, but Herlings used all available track. Ultimately, Febvre took the holeshot. Coenen had crashed at the start and had to chase from last place.

Herlings passed Vialle in turn three and then also overtook Febvre before the end of the first lap. However, Jeffrey didn't get the victory handed to him on a silver platter. World champion Febvre felt right at home, proof that the Kawasaki setup work of the past few weeks is starting to pay off.

Behind the top two, there was plenty of action. Tim Gajser rode a strong race and fought his way to third place by passing Vialle with two laps to go. Lucas Coenen, who had made a very strong comeback, was in excellent form. In the closing stages, World Championship leader Vialle was right on his heels just before the finish. However, the Frenchman ultimately held on by a narrow margin for fourth place. Coenen finished fifth, Andrea Adamo sixth.

Brent Van Doninck scored his well-deserved first World Championship point on Saturday with a tenth place. Fantic teammate Alberto Forato did even slightly better with an eighth place. Jago Geerts clearly struggled in the Sardinian sand and had to settle for nineteenth place.

Among the other Dutch riders, Kay de Wolf was the best with a seventh place. Roan van de Moosdijk, who had already been in good form earlier in the day during timed practice, finished eleventh. Rick Elzinga and Calvin Vlaanderen had a day to forget quickly and retired.
