GOne more championship points on Easter Monday at the VMCF in Poederlee, but with a number of 'fresh' drivers.
Eleven Inters passed by the registration table on Monday morning; with the exception of C-Jay Vanderelst, they were all 450cc riders. Mattéo Puffet was no longer with them, as he headed to the AMPL race in Gérouville today. But with Mark Boot, Roel Geurts, and Tyla Van De Poel, there were still three 'new' riders at the start.
VLM guest rider Tyla Van De Poel took the holeshot, ahead of Dimitri Widar, Jilani Cambré, Joe Vandereyt, and Ken De Dycker. Widar, along with David Foguenne, would retire from the race after just two laps. Van De Poel initially had a clear run and led the pack for four laps until Cambré, followed by De Dycker, passed him. Mark Boot had already fought his way from outside the top 5 to third place, thus securing the top 3. Joe Vandereyt managed to overtake Van De Poel in the final stages. At the finish, Cambré had a lead of over 6 seconds over De Dycker.
Anyone expecting a rematch in the second heat was out of luck, as De Dycker did not appear at the start, nor did Widar. Jilani Cambré didn't let it get to him and took the best start ahead of Roel Geurts, Van De Poel, Boot, and Vandereyt. Hillclimb specialist Geurts held onto second place for two laps but then had to let the pressing Van De Poel pass him. After a disappointing race in the VLM championship opener on Easter Sunday, Van De Poel was determined to set things right in a sporting manner. And the Herenthout native did just that, taking the lead from Cambré shortly after the halfway point. The Wmx Shop Yamaha rider then rode to the heat victory. In the final stages, Cambré had to concede defeat to the advancing Boot, who finished second just 3 seconds behind Van De Poel. David Foguenne and Vandereyt rounded out the top 5.
Third place in the second heat was enough for Jilani Cambré to secure the overall victory. On the Inters 500 podium, he was joined by Mark Boot and Tyla Van De Poel.
C-Jay Vanderelst was the only Inter 250 and the logical overall winner. In the Nationals, the victory went to Eric Foguenne (500cc) and Brend Van Den Berghe (250cc) respectively.
