DThe second round of the British Championship was to be driven under perfect conditions. Or so we thought, but apparently we were mistaken.

MX2 Series 1: Strange victory for Charlie Heyman

Heyman got off to the fastest start, ahead of Jamie Keith, Tommy Searle, and Joe Brookes. That remained the case after one lap and continued right up to the checkered flag. Was it monotonous, then? Far from it, because the two pursuers were in leader Heyman's slipstream. Literally. With 8 minutes to go, they were still riding wheel to wheel. And then copy-paste Grevenbroich. The race was red-flagged. Reason: the wind! We didn't even get the finish on screen.

We should also mention Davy Pootjes' fifth place. He started from eighth position. Gyan Doensen came through in eleventh place and would finish in 7th.

MX2: Searle far from burned out

For Billy Askew, sixth in heat 1, the sting was in the absolute final moments of the race; on the very last lap, he was overtaken by Joe Brookes. The heat did not offer much in terms of changes in the top four. Brookes passed John Adamson on the first lap, and Askew fell victim on the final one.

From lap two, Tommy Searle led, followed by Askew and Brookes. You have already read about the rest. Gyan Doensen rode a better final heat and finished fourth. Charlie Heyman, the winner of heat one, had to dig deep to make his sixteenth starting position shine; he did so convincingly and finished a fine fifth. In doing so, he neatly battled his way between overall winner Searle and Joe Brookes to claim the silver. Pootjes retired late.
