DAytona didn't disappoint again. The 450SX final turned into a game of speed chess, with a power shift at the top and a championship that was now truly on the line. What began with a perfect start from the championship leader ended with a historic victory.
Lawrence takes the holeshot, Roczen strikes
At the start, it was Hunter Lawrence who showed the best reaction and took the holeshot. The Honda rider looked poised to consolidate his championship lead, but was quickly challenged by an aggressively started Ken Roczen. The German rider took a convincing lead and controlled the pace in the opening stages. With clean lines and consistent lap times, he held everyone back—until lap five.
Tomac makes history: “Mister Daytona”
Eli Tomac came charging from the chasing group like a train. The KTM rider worked his way up from fifth position and launched an attack on Roczen. Once in the lead, he held on.
Tomac drove with control to his fourth victory of the season. But more importantly, it was his eighth victory at Daytona. This cements his status as the specialist of this legendary circuit. If anyone deserves the nickname "Mister Daytona," it's him. At the finish, Tomac finished just over a second ahead of Lawrence.
The Australian managed to pass Roczen on lap eleven, thus limiting the championship damage to Eli Tomac with a second-place finish. Roczen finished third, while defending champion Cooper Webb finished fourth in a consistent but lackluster race. Joey Savatgy rounded out the top five.
Championship: difference now only one point
With his second-place finish, Hunter Lawrence retains the Red Plate in the 450SX standings. But his margin over Eli Tomac is now just one point. That's nothing at this stage of the season.
Ken Roczen climbs to third place in the standings, but trails Lawrence by twenty points. He's tied on points with Cooper Webb, who is fourth. The message is clear: the title race is wide open. And with "Mister Daytona" in top form, the season promises to be a blast.
