SBad news from the Monster Energy Kawasaki camp. The team announced via social media that Chase Sexton will not be racing at round 8 of the AMA Supercross Championship. The American is forced to miss the iconic Daytona Supercross.
Sexton sustained injuries to his hip and lower back during preparation for Daytona. A significant setback, especially considering the physically demanding nature of the race. Daytona is known as one of the toughest rounds on the calendar, with a unique circuit that features more outdoor elements and places extra strain on the body.
The timing couldn't have been worse. Sexton hasn't had a smooth start to the season so far. After seven rounds, he's only fifth in the standings and already 27 points behind championship leader Hunter Lawrence. While that's not an insurmountable gap, in a championship where consistency is key, the pressure is mounting.
Moreover, the transition to the Kawasaki wasn't without its challenges. Sexton has openly discussed the fine-tuning, his feel for the bike, and finding the right setup. The raw speed is undeniable, but stability and flawless evenings were a rare exception, until that one night in Anaheim.
Missing a round could further jeopardize or even jeopardize his title aspirations. Monster Energy Kawasaki announced that further updates on his recovery and return will follow. For Sexton, it will now be crucial to return physically strong—because if he wants to revive his title fight, he'll need to score immediately upon his comeback.
