IInters 500 and EMX Open champion Cedric Grobben concluded his season in style in Reet. Kevin Schellens (7-2) only needed a third-place finish to secure his Inters 250 crown.
MC Kleiduivels hosted the traditional season finale at the Klak in Reet. The large crowd enjoyed a demonstration by reigning champion Cedric Grobben, as well as several interesting guest riders, including MX2 World Championship rider Nicolas Vennekens, Jens Getteman, and Junior Bal.
Grobben (pictured above) was more than 1,1 seconds faster than Brent Aerden in timed practice in the morning. The GasGas rider carried that pace into the heats. He rode unchallenged to victory ahead of Aerden, who in turn rode a lonely race, crossing the finish line almost 12 seconds ahead of Glenn Bielen.
MCLB guest riders Getteman and Bal provided plenty of excitement! Getteman had the best start, but the former Belgian MX2 champion ultimately succumbed to his younger rival. Beach racing specialist Bal also took the pace of the well-started Vennekens along the way. Nicolas finished a clear-cut first MX2 rider, 14 seconds ahead of Jordi Van Mieghem.
In the battle for the Inters 250 title, Dieter Vromans (4th) finished ahead of Kevin Schellens (7th), but that was only a postponement.
Top 5 is repeating
Anyone who thought only VRT had a patent on replays was disappointed. With Grobben, Aerden, Bielen, Bal, and Getteman in the same order, the top 5 was identical to the opening round. This time, Brent Aerden (pictured above) kept the gap to Cedric Grobben to almost under 10 seconds.
Early leader Getteman quickly succumbed to Grobben. Halfway through the race, Bal and Getteman swapped positions again. This time, the difference at the finish was only a few seconds in Junior's favor!
Kevin Schellens celebrated his title in style. The final race was by far his best of the day. Kevin rode a consistent race and was only beaten by Vennekens in the 250cc class. Jamie Haanen took the day's victory in the Inters B class thanks to a stronger second moto than Tom Cuyvers.
