IIn a recent interview with Infront Moto Racing CEO David Luongo, it emerged that plans to hold a 2026 World Championship for electric motocross bikes have been shelved. According to Luongo, the introduction of the so-called MXEP class has been postponed due to manufacturers' incomplete development.
The electric class (MXEP) was introduced in March 2024, with the plan to integrate these races into an MXGP weekend. The intention was to organize five or six races. After consultation with the manufacturers, it was decided to postpone the series. Because Infront did not want to combine electric motorcycles with traditional combustion engines, it was decided at the time to give the manufacturers involved a four-year plan to see if they would be ready for 2026.
The attentive motocross enthusiast had already noticed that things were very quiet around the upcoming MXEP competition. For instance, there were no regulations for the participating motorcycles and riders yet. Now we know why.
