OOur compatriot Lucas Coenen (KTM) traveled to China with a 26-point deficit to his title rival Romain Febvre. He already lost four points to the Frenchman during Saturday's qualifying heat, and things became even more dramatic during Sunday's two heats in Shanghai.
Coenen couldn't make a move during the first moto and went over the bike through the front door in turn two immediately after the start of the second moto. Despite being the first to go, he now had to limit the damage from the back of the pack. As he made his way through the peloton, the Overijssel native seemed to lose his composure, and he finished in a very poor 14th place.
Coenen said afterwards that he had no strength in his body and did not know the cause of it.

In an interview with Sporza, Coenen expressed his frustration and realized that a potential world title is now a long way off. This coming weekend, the final MXGP of 2025 will be held in Darwin, Australia.
