The penultimate round of the EMX250 Championship took place on the rough sands of Arnhem, round seventeen of the World Championship. With Gyan Doensen cheering on Max Werner and Oriol Oliver from the sidelines during his home race, it was shaping up to be an action-packed weekend. In a week and a half, the curtain falls in Turkey.
There was only one group in the EMX250 class this weekend. Fifty riders tried to secure their place at the finish. Max qualified ninth.
Max had a good start in the first race, comfortably holding seventh place. A crash forced him to retire. He had a great start in the second race, and it looked like he would finish comfortably in the top ten. A late crash set him back, and his meager result was a mere seventeenth place.
In the MX2 class, Oriol qualified XNUMXth. A crash in the first corner forced him to retire. Worse still, he had to take the starting gate last on Sunday. Still, it turned out to be a decent first moto after starting from the very outside. Fourteenth place was reasonable. The second moto started much better with a top-ten start. Unfortunately, he didn't remain faultless and finished XNUMXth.
Oriol: "It was a difficult GP in Arnhem. After a crash in the qualifying race, I was only allowed to go to the gate last. I can only finish fourteenth and thirteenth in the heats. I didn't have a good feeling on the track. That's been bothering me for a few races now. I hope to get a good result in Duns, a British Championship race." "
Max: "We've made positive steps in the right direction since the weekend. We haven't been able to get everything right. Now I have to prepare for the final EMX race in Turkey, the British Championship. I'm confident I can prove myself better in the final races."
Team manager Shaun Simpson: “Unfortunately, it wasn't a great weekend in Arnhem for the team. Oriol struggled with his pace in qualifying, which wasn't enough to keep him in the top 10 in the race itself. Still, it's positive that he didn't give up. Considering his driving, the score is quite good. Max had better pace this weekend and seemed to perform well on track. In the race itself, a lot of mistakes prevented a better result. We hope to fight for podium finishes with both drivers in Duns.”
