RGrandma Febvre retained his red plate in the FIM MXGP World Championship. He finished second in the unforgiving sand of Lommel. Mathis Valin, the MX2 rider, finished fifth twice, after poor starts.

Romain Febvre: “I knew Lucas would try everything here. But I also know I can win if I get a good start, like in race one. He passed me once, but I attacked right back. It was important to react immediately and break his rhythm. He tried again on the last lap. I think he made a mistake, because suddenly he was gone.”

I knew Lucas was back in the second moto. I couldn't change my line. He was two places faster than me, but I couldn't figure out where he was going to attack. I tried to follow him when he passed, but he immediately opened up a gap. And I had to let him go. I got through my weekend well and only dropped one point. I'm enjoying the remaining circuits on the schedule and I remain confident.

Antti Pyrhönen (KRT team manager): “It was another fantastic weekend for Romain. He rode very strongly. He won the first moto and had a great battle in the second. Lommel is always difficult. It's so technically and physically demanding. You don't even know if you'll have enough energy for the second moto. We still have the red plate, and we'll keep fighting.”

Mathis Valin: “I had a really bad start in the first moto. Still, I came from almost last place to fifth. I was riding fast and in a good rhythm. There were so many lines in the corners here. You could make a difference everywhere. So I was able to overtake a lot. The second moto was pretty much the same. I caught Simon (Längenfelder, ed.) at the end of the moto. That proves again that I'm improving every week. I've made great strides in the last two GPs.”

Antti Pyrhönen: "Mathis was so strong again this weekend. Both times he started from outside the top ten and finished 5-5. In the second moto, he was very close to finishing 2nd, 3rd, or 250th. That shows his strength, his technical ability, and how good the KXXNUMX-SR is as a bike in challenging conditions."
