The Wolf scores crucial victory in Finland!

KAy de Wolf (Nestaan Factory Husqvarna) leaves Finland with a perfect hat trick, winning both races on Saturday and today. Championship runner-up Andrea Adamo also performed well (2-3), while Simon Längenfelder (6-5), who leads the World Championship, lost points.

The KymiRing could well prove to be a turning point in the MX2 World Championship. De Wolf knew what he had to do and accomplished his mission with aplomb. In the first moto, the world champion outmaneuvered quick starter Andrea Adamo. For World Championship leader Längenfelder, the first moto was a race to the finish, finishing only 6th.

Things went wrong for Längenfelder from the very start. The German ran off the track at the start, dropping him to 12th place. At the front, De Wolf dominated, and Adamo was happy to be able to keep up. Yamaha leader Thibault Benistant recorded a strong third place and seemed to threaten Adamo in the closing stages.

The race's biggest comeback came courtesy of Sacha Coenen (pictured above). Coenen was only 13th after the first lap, yet he still managed to finish an impressive 4th, ahead of Triumph stalwart Camden McLellan. Rick Elzinga and Cas Valk finished 10th and 11th, respectively.

Only 17 (!) starters in the restart, but that didn't dampen the spirits. In that second moto, Sacha grabbed his ninth holeshot of the season. The Red Bull KTM rider led the pack for ten laps. Then it was De Wolf who took control, having already anticipated a strong Thibault Benistant (photo below) a few laps earlier. Adamo had started outside the top five, but in true "nothing goes, nothing goes" style, he still made progress. A few laps before the final whistle, he overtook Benistant from P2 to snag crucial World Championship points. Längenfelder clearly wasn't feeling his best in Finland but limited the damage somewhat with a 9th-place finish.

After 13 rounds of the World Championship, Längenfelder leads former world champion Adamo by 43 points, with de Wolf 48 points behind the current standings leader. The absence of the injured Liam Everts allowed Sacha Coenen to maximize his championship standings. The young Belgian jumps from 5th to 4th in the standings. Cas Valk remains 9th and is the second-placed Dutchman in the MX2 World Championship.
