Liam Everts takes a 6-2 victory for second place overall, while Kay de Wolf takes a 7-8 victory to move into tenth place at a demanding round 2 of the MXXNUMX World Championship at Matterley Basin.

Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing put in a top performance as the 2025 FIM Motocross World Championship concluded its twelfth of the 21-round series at Matterley Basin. Liam Everts took a well-deserved second place overall, while Kay de Wolf finished inside the top ten at round XNUMX of the season.

Set in the chalk hills near Winchester in southern England, Matterley Basin has hosted an annual Grand Prix since 2007 and remains one of the most iconic circuits in the sport. The fast, flowing layout – built into a natural bowl – combines big jumps with off-camber corners and technical ruts, making line choice and momentum crucial. After a warm and windy Saturday, cooler temperatures and a freshly rained-out track on Sunday provided an additional challenge, slowing down lap times and keeping drivers on their toes.

Liam Everts continued his strong form into the weekend, qualifying third with a final-lap overtake on Sacha Coenen, maintaining his perfect scoring record in every Saturday race this season. In the opening moto, he was pushed around at the start and dropped to thirteenth, but responded with a calm and clinical ride back into the field. Everts overtook rivals lap after lap and moved into the top ten on lap two. He kept pushing and climbed to sixth with a decisive overtake on teammate De Wolf three laps from the finish.

In the second race, Everts made a brilliant start and immediately took second place. From then on, he followed leader Simon Längenfelder and even set the fastest lap of the race as he tried to reduce the deficit. As the KTM rider got away in the final laps, Everts kept a strong pace and came six seconds behind, but well ahead of third-placed Benistant. His score of 6-2 earned him second place overall and another podium finish – his third of the season so far.

For Kay de Wolf, it was a weekend that started from a disadvantage. A crash during timed practice and another crash in qualifying left the Dutch rider 18th at the start. However, he fought back well in the first race – he stormed from tenth to sixth place halfway through the race and came close to a group of riders in a thrilling battle for fifth place. A near-crash late in the race forced him wide and dropped him behind Everts, but he recovered quickly to finish seventh.

In the second moto, De Wolf made another quick overtaking move and reached eighth place on lap four. He maintained his position for the rest of the race and kept things tidy, despite a scare coming out of the penultimate corner. A consistent 7-8 result put him in tenth place in the daily standings, securing more points as the season enters its final phase.

With six rounds remaining, both Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing riders remain well positioned in the MX2 title race. Kay de Wolf sits third in the standings with 505 points, 70 behind championship leader Simon Längenfelder, while Liam Everts sits fourth with 464 points and is closing in on the top three. With a full calendar ahead and valuable points still to be earned, the battle is far from over. Next up is the MXGP of Finland at the KymiRing on July 12-13.

#1 – Kay de Wolf: “It was definitely one of those tougher weekends. Crashes during practice and then again in qualifying put me at a disadvantage from the start, but I gave it my all in both motos. I couldn’t fight right up front, but we still managed to score points and limit the damage. Now it’s all about getting things back in order, using the brakes to come back stronger and close the gap to the top. There’s still a lot of racing to do and I’m fully focused on turning things around in Finland.”

#72 – Liam Everts: “I actually felt that I rode stronger overall in the first moto, even though the result in the second moto was better. I got tucked away at the start in the first moto and had to fight from far back, but my pace was solid until the end and I made some good overtakes to finish sixth. In the second moto I got off to a much better start and quickly took second place. I did my best to stay with Simon, but he was just a little bit sharper in a few key sections. Still, a 6-2 score and third overall is something to be happy with. It’s nice to go into the short break on the podium, with good momentum.”
