Liam Everts posted 6-2 results yesterday and finished a great 2nd in the MX2 daily classification. Teammate Kay de Wolf fought his way to Pt7 with 8-10 finishes during the 12th round of the MX2 world championship in the British Matterley Basin.
Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing provided the excitement during the 12th of 21 races of the 2025 FIM Motocross World Championship at Matterley Basin, with Liam Everts taking a well-deserved second place and Kay de Wolf finishing in the top ten.
Matterley Basin, set in the chalk hills near Winchester in southern England, has hosted a Grand Prix every year since 2007 and remains one of the sport’s most iconic venues. The fast, flowing course – built into a natural basin – combines big jumps with off-camber corners and technical ruts, making line choice and momentum crucial. After a warm and windy Saturday, cooler temperatures and a freshly watered track on Sunday provided an added challenge, slowing down lap times and keeping drivers on their toes.
Liam Everts entered the weekend in strong form, qualifying third with a final-lap pass on Sacha Coenen to maintain his perfect points record in all Saturday races this season. In the first moto, he was pushed out at the start and dropped back to thirteenth, but he responded with a calm and clinical overtaking drive. Everts overtook rivals lap after lap and broke into the top ten on lap two. He kept pushing and climbed to sixth with a decisive pass on teammate De Wolf three laps from the finish.
In the second race, Everts made a brilliant start and immediately moved up to second place. From there, he followed early leader Simon Längenfelder closely and even set the fastest lap of the race in an attempt to close the gap. As the KTM rider pulled away in the final laps, Everts kept up a high pace and crossed the finish line six seconds behind, but well ahead of third-placed Benistant. With his 6-2 score, he secured second place in the overall standings and another podium finish, his third of the season so far.
For Kay de Wolf, it was a weekend that started badly. Due to a crash in the timed practice and another crash in qualifying, the Dutch rider had to start from 18th place. However, he fought back well in the first race: halfway through the race he was already from tenth to sixth place and was riding in a tight battle for fifth place in a group of riders. A near-crash at the end of the race forced him to swerve wide, which put him behind Everts, but he recovered quickly and finished seventh.
In the second manche, De Wolf again attacked early and was in eighth place after four laps. He maintained this position until the end of the race and rode a decent race, despite a scare in the penultimate corner. With a consistent 7-8 result, he finished tenth in the daily classification and again scored points in the final phase of the season.
With six races to go, both Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing riders are still well positioned in the battle for the MX2 title. Kay de Wolf is third in the standings with 505 points, 70 behind leader Simon Längenfelder, while Liam Everts is fourth with 464 points and is closing in on the top three. With a busy calendar ahead and valuable points still up for grabs, the battle is far from over. Next up is the MXGP of Finland at the KymiRing on July 12-13.
Kay de Wolf: "It was definitely one of those tougher weekends. My crash in practice and then again in qualifying put me at a disadvantage from the start, but I gave it my all in both motos. I couldn't fight at the front, but we still managed to score points and limit the damage. Now it's time to reset, use the break to come back stronger and close the gap to the top. There are still many races to go and I'm fully focused on turning the tide in Finland."
Liam Evert: “I actually thought I rode stronger overall in the first moto, even though the result in the second moto was better. In the first moto I got stuck at the start and had to fight back from the back, but my pace was solid until the end and I made some good overtaking manoeuvres to finish sixth. In the second moto I got off to a much better start and was able to settle into second place early on. I did my best to keep up with Simon (Längenfelder), but he was just a little bit sharper in a few crucial sections. Still, a 6-2 score and third place overall is something to be happy about. It’s nice to go into the short break with a podium finish and some good momentum.”
