ODespite the sustained effort of Nicolò Alvisi, the Italian had to hand over the Red Plate to Mano Faure. The Frenchman single-handedly held off four Italians.
Faure led from start to finish and quickly acquired a bonus of six or seven seconds. I said Italian power, but the Swiss Ryan Oppliger was in second position ahead of Filippo Mantovani, Niccolo Mannini and Francesco Bellei. There was no leader Alvisi at that time, but that would come.
Mantovani lost a few places while struggling, but he would eventually drive a cracking race, which brought him to third place. The same for Alvisi, who started in tenth place. He saw the storm coming and did everything he could to limit the damage. He succeeded with his fourth place, but that was not enough to keep the EC lead. But he did score the same number of points as the new leader Faure. Oppliger had to take quite a few passers-by, and also fell in the final lap.
Jarne Bervoets started in eighth place, lost the duel with teammate Dani Heitink, but eventually finished in a nice seventh place. Douwe Van Mechgelen had a less good start, and made it to eleventh place. Ian Ampoorter crashed at the start, I think, and was the very last to go on the track. His eighteenth place is therefore a big result. We do miss Priem Seth in that final series.
