Haiden Deegan wins his first 250SX title in spectacular fashion

Chase Sexton and Haiden Deegan triumphed this Saturday in Denver, the penultimate round of the American Supercross season, before the big finale in Salt Lake City. Thanks to an explosive finale against teammate Cole Davies, Deegan is now assured of the SX250 title on the west coast.

By finishing second in the final, just behind his last title rival, Cooper Webb secures a 9-point lead over Sexton heading into the final race. Behind him, Ken Roczen occupies third place, 76 points behind. The German is 10 points ahead of Justin Cooper and 6 ahead of Malcolm Stewart. These three drivers are therefore still in contention for the bronze medal.

In the SX250, Haiden Deegan took his third win of the season, extending his lead over teammate Cole Davies, who finished fifth on Saturday, by eight points to secure the SX8 West Coast title.

It was a close race, as Davies had taken the holeshot but was tackled hard by Deegan two laps from the end, sending Davies off the track. He fought back to fifth place, but lost 8 points to Deegan, who heads to Salt Lake City with a 25-point lead. With that, “Danger Boy” is certain of the West Coast title, because even if Davies wins the final and Deegan doesn’t score a single point, the rules state that the rider with the most second places will be the champion — and that would be Deegan.

The big sporting highlight of the season comes next weekend in Salt Lake City, with the final East/West Showdown. There will be decided who will be crowned SX250 champion on the east coast, where Tom Vialle, Seth Hammaker and RJ Hampshire are separated by just 3 points.
