After his victory yesterday, Janis Martins Reisulis (VHR VRT Yamaha) went for the double in hellish conditions. The Latvian die-hard led from start to finish, European 125cc champion Noel Zanocz finished second. Bradley Mesters (8-6) achieved his best result of the season.
Race 2 for the fifth round of the EMX250 in Portugal started in heavy rain. JM Honda Racing's Noel Zanocz got off to a great start with Mancini on the outside and Reisulis on the inside. Bobby Bruce was in between in third place on the first descent.
Zanocz initially took the lead, but a strong attack from Reisulis disrupted his rhythm, and the Latvian took the lead. Shortly after, Zanocz crashed from P2 and dropped back to fourth, while Mancini and Bruce moved past. Shortly after, Reisulis also made a mistake and briefly lost the lead. Zanocz crashed again, this time while pressuring Mancini, allowing Nico Greutmann to move up.
Bruce meanwhile had a hard time with a pressing Francisco Garcia, who eventually rode to fourth place. Zanchi found his way past Greutmann and the two fought fiercely for P2. Reisulis crashed for the second time and then definitively lost the lead to Zanchi. But the Italian also made a mistake from the lead, which allowed Reisulis to regain the lead. Mesters became the best lowlander with a 6th place, both in the heat and in the final standings. Gyan Doensen again recorded a top-10. The EMX250 rookie is now 10th in the standings, 3 points behind Mesters.
It became a chaotic race, in which Greutmann even had a chance of victory, until he also lost ground. Zanchi took advantage and relegated Greutmann to P3. At the end it was Janis Reisulis who crossed the finish line first, six seconds ahead of Zanchi. Greutmann came third, Garcia fourth.
In the daily result, Reisulis took the double victory for the second time this season and was again on top of the podium. Zanchi was second in the final standings (4-2), Garcia third (3-4). Reisulis consolidates his lead in the championship, now 12 points ahead of Zanchi and two ahead of Bud Racing Kawasaki's Francisco Garcia.
