AThe AMPL – Association Motocycliste de la Province de Luxembourg in full – is the only player on the Walloon cross market and has the wind in its sails. The number of licensees exceeded 850 (!) earlier this season and the entry lists were also 'square' during the Easter weekend in Gérouville.
The focus of the two-day AMPL weekend was on Monday, but that did not prevent a number of big names from already competing in the highly competitive Open125 class on Easter Sunday. Behind the starting gate stood no less than 46 cracking two-strokes, a field of participants that Flemish organisers can currently only dream of. It was ex-GP rider Bryan Boulard who would win both heats, each time after Bastien Stommen had taken the holeshot. Boulard and Stommen were therefore the logical numbers 1 and 2 on the final podium, where they were accompanied by the young Louan Plevoets.
On Easter Monday it was the turn of the Inters MX2 and MX1 – as these classes are still called in the AMPL. Both Inters classes rode separately and that was necessary given the size of the fields.
Bryan Boulard won both series at the Inters MX2, each time ahead of Jimmy Piront. In the first heat Noa Denil (son of…) managed to finish third, but in the resumption that place was reserved for Florent Lambillon. On the final podium Boulard preceded Piront and Denil.
Triumph pilot Boulard also managed to win the first round of the Inters MX1, beating Matteo Puffet – who had made the trip to the far Gérouville from Herk-de-Stad – and Tanguy Gabriel. Puffet took the lead in the 2e heat and thus won the final classification in the Inters MX1 ahead of Boulard and Gabriel.
The packed afternoon of cross in the far south of the country ended with the Superfinal, which once again proved to be a piece of cake for Bryan Boulard. The former Swiss champion won ahead of Puffet and Gabriel. Flemish Dietger Damiaens and Bryan Engelen rounded out the top 5.
