DThe VLM caravan landed in Lummen this weekend. The public got to see some great races, with two different series winners at the Inters 500: Nolan Cordens and Cedric Grobben!
Training fastest Nolan Cordens started the first heat like a rocket, with Yentel Martens, Kenny Janssens and Karel Schepmans on his wheel. The start was shocked by an unfortunate crash of Yirre Saenen, who had just recovered from an operation on his forearms.
Cedric Grobben missed his start a bit and only got away in sixth place. Kevin Schellens, who was the leader in the 250cc, was a strong contender at the front. Brent Aerden quickly moved up to third place. Grobben then quickly moved up to fourth place, ahead of an astonishing Schellens. Cordens kept pushing, because Yentel Martens kept the leader in sight at just four seconds. Grobben slowed down when he felt something on the rear brake and dropped back to eighth place!
Kenny Janssens didn't let it get to him and briefly came in third place. Aerden, Schellens, Schepmans and Bielen followed in his wake. Grobben started an impressive catch-up race and rolled up the opponents one by one and ended up in third place.
Nolan Cordens won the series ahead of Yentel Martens (photo above). In the 250cc class, a sublime Kevin Schellens rode to victory, ahead of teammate Boyd Van Endert and Bart Janssens. The B-class was a success for Jens Steensels from Pelt. He astonished friend and foe, and left Jaimy Haanen and Chiel Vanhaeren behind him.
Cedric Grobben again!
Grobben needed a small miracle to be crowned laureate. He shot out of the starting blocks like a rocket. Yentel Martens, Glenn Bielen, Nick Spannenburg, Kenny Janssens and Cordens were the pursuers.
Cordens had to work hard right away. Teammate Bielen in third place offered the most resistance — Cordens passed him twice, but Bielen did not give up and continued to hunt Martens fiercely.
When Cordens finally managed to beat Bielen, there was only one man left for the win: Yentel Martens. And that turned out to be no easy task. Several attacks were needed to push Martens from that second place.
Behind the trio, Brent Aerden and especially “Scheppie” Karel Schepmans caused a sensation. The duel between Martens and Cordens kept the public enraptured. Martens kept pushing, the difference was never more than four seconds.
Grobben saw his huge lead quickly diminish, but just managed to pull off a wheelie! Nolan Cordens came in second, taking the overall victory.
Schellens took the double in the 250cc, ahead of BeteMo teammate Boyd Van Endert and Bart Janssens. In the B-class, Chiel Vanhaeren broke Jaimy Haanen's hegemony. Jens Steensels also excelled today, but missed out on the victory because Domien Vermeiren came second in this series.
