Last Saturday the season opener in the MX2 youth class took place in Cuijk. Jenairo Beerens took the manche win twice and the full 120 points. With two second places in the manches, the Belgian Seppe De Rooze (photo below) was second. Chento van Zoestnemen was allowed to join him on the podium as third.
First heat
HIt was Sten de Visser with the best start ahead of Beerens. After the first full lap, Beerens had taken over the lead. Van Zoest and De Rooze had also passed de Visser and followed in second and third place. Behind de Visser came the German Robin Mittler. After three laps, Beerens already had a lead of more than nine seconds on van Zoest and De Rooze. Well behind him, Mittler passed de Visser to take over fourth place. Close behind him came Luuk Tijken, followed by several riders who were fighting for a place in the top five. Mittler then had problems with the brakes and quickly fell back. De Visser and Tijken moved up as a result.
A few laps later Tijken also passed Visser and Van Zoest had to give up second place to De Rooze. It was Vigo Dral who rode a strong second part of the manche and also passed Visser and then closed the gap with Tijker to pass him as well. At the front the tension was already gone and Beerens was able to take the manche victory unchallenged ahead of De Rooze and Van Zoest. Dral rode away from Tijken to see the finish flag in fourth place. Tijken completed the top five.
Second heat
It was now Beerens who immediately took the lead ahead of De Rooze, van Zoest, de Visser and Joshua Steensels. Woe thought that Beerens would now also ride away from the rest was disappointed. De Rooze stayed on his rear wheel for a long time. In the penultimate round, de Rooze lost ten seconds, which seemed to decide the battle. However, Beerens fell in the last round. Beerens got up just in time and still won the manche with a lead of just over one second.
Well behind him, van Zoest rode the entire heat in a no-man's land and crossed the finish line in third place. For Enzerink, the same was true behind him and he ended up fourth in the heat. De Visser could not hold on to his place in the top five again. It was the young lady Rony Metekohy who had passed Steensel and de Visser who claimed fifth place in the heat for herself.
After the trio Beerens, De Rooze and van Zoest, fourth place in the final standings went to Lenn Enzerink (6-4). Xander Vanschooren from Belgium made it to the top 5 thanks to seventh and fifth places in the heats.
