Puffet, Damiaens and Dercourt win the 44th Chinelle

Dhe 44th edition of the 12 Hours of La Chinelle took place this weekend in Franchimont in a summery atmosphere. The public was present in large numbers again for this major event in the Belgian motorcycle season, which has the particularity of bringing together the curious and the passionate, both amateurs and experienced riders, for a weekend.

The new trio at the helm of the 12 Heures de la Chinelle announced in the spring that they wanted to revive the event to give it the impetus it needs to approach its 45th anniversary in top form next year. Now that the checkered flag has fallen for the machines that participated this weekend, we can already say that they have succeeded in their goal by creating a 2024 edition in record time that has fulfilled all promises.

From a sporting point of view, the withdrawal of the official Sherco led by Antoine Magain, who suffered a hand injury a few weeks before the event, meant that the team consisting of enduro rider Dietger Damiaens and cross-country riders Mattéo Puffet and Nicolas Dercourt were the favorites for this 44th edition. The trio did not disappoint.

In fact, they took on the role perfectly, leading the race head and shoulders, controlling the pressure exerted by the Sherco of Hugo Vukcevic, Tim Louis and Romain Dagna until the eighth hour of the race and before the latter finally side was sidelined in the battle for victory by electrical problems followed by a two-lap penalty. Puffet, Damiaens and Dercourt were able to take victory with a three-lap lead at the checkered flag ahead of the team consisting of Valentin Lacasse, Antoine Volral and Antoine Ernoux. The podium was completed by Andrew Leloup, Dorian Tourneur and Damien Wauthier, one lap behind the second-placed machine.

Minique/Vanderbeke/Raiwet finished one lap further down the podium, ahead of the winners of the 'Nationals' category, the trio Adrien Servais, Julien Lagamme and Julien Lorquet.

The winners of the 'Chinelle' class were Bastien Romain, François Bievet and Thibault Maroit, in 7th place overall, just ahead of the winners of the 'Youth' classification for this 44th Chinelle, the crew consisting of Brieuc Fraselle, just back from injury, and Théo Persyn and Esteban Brachotte. Brieuc stayed ahead of his father Jérémie's team, with Quentin Wester and Florian Galante, who finished ninth and second in the Nationals.

In the Men's class, the victory went to the quartet of Ludovic Danse, Dimitri Vanhoenacker, Cristophe Deprez and Willy Evelette. They finished on the same lap as their runners-up in this category, Fabrice Debroux, Bertrand Bailleux and Fabian Gillard.
