Lucas Coenen added a new victory to his list of achievements in Lombok, Indonesia. The reverse circuit from last week suited him like a glove and he won both heats in the MX2, in addition to the qualifying heat. Joining him on the podium were Mikkel Haarup (Triumph) and Simon Laengenfelder (GasGas).
First series
Simon Laengenfelder took off like a hare in the first corner and led the field ahead of Lucas Coenen and Kay de Wolf. Sacha Coenen started fourth while Liam Everts only finished 12thde passed by. Before the end of the first round, Lucas Coenen took over from the German.
Everts had already made up four places after two laps. Kay de Wolf was then able to pass Laengenfelder and took P2 and from then on he had his teammate Lucas Coenen in his sights. On lap four we recorded our first crash and the American Jack Chambers had to get back on his Kawasaki with a long way behind.
Once again Rick Elzinga was within the top ten, but had to let an unleashed Liam Everts pass. Reigning world champion Andrea Adamo lay down, so Everts was given a spot by the Italian. Sacha Coenen then crashed somewhat impetuously in a corner, allowing Mikkel Haarup and Liam Everts to gain a spot.
Lucas Coenen had squeezed a lot of pace out of his Husky and was now, after eight laps, 10 seconds behind the Wolf. Elzinga saw his radiator protection come loose and had to fight with his machine to remove the thing. Suddenly Laengenfelder was back in P2, Kay de Wolf made a small mistake which meant he had to lose a place.
Lucas Coenen did not tolerate anyone in his wheel this series and won the series ahead of Simon Laengenfelder and Kay de Wolf.
Second series
Once again Simon Laengenfelder took the holeshot with Lucas Coenen in second and brother Sacha in fourth. After a few turns, Sacha Coenen did some soil research so that Kay de Wolf could take his place. Liam Everts started in P6 but immediately moved up to fourth place.
A small swerve from Laengenfelder was immediately punished by Lucas Coenen who took over the lead from the GasGas driver. Liam Everts was tricked by teammate Adamo, but the Lummen native immediately countered. A few corners further, the two clashed again, but both crashed.
Kay de Wolf chased Laengenfelder for second place while Lucas Coenen on his Husky took the plunge. After seven laps, the young talent from Overijse already had a ten-second lead. Brother Sacha crashed a second time, had to go into the pits, and thus ruined a well-started series. Then the Wolf dived next to his machine and had to restart in P6.
Triumph rider Mikkel Haarup had started the race well and suddenly fell into the wheel of second man Laengenfelder. He got past it while the German struggled for a moment. Andrea Adamo also ran over Laengenfelder moments later, while Liam Everts briefly saw the back of the KTM break away and slide down. Fortunately, he didn't lose any places with this slider.
However, the reigning world champion wanted even more. When the official time had expired, he appeared at Haarup's rear wheel and attacked the second position. Adamo got past it on the last lap. Lucas Coenen won the series and therefore the GP by force majeure. It's already the 8th Belgian victory this year in the MX2. Laengenfelder crashes just before the finish, allowing Liam Everts to take the spot. Lucas Coenen is flanked on stage by Mikkel Haarup and Andrea Adamo.
With this new victory, Lucas Coenen manages to close the gap behind leader Kay de Wolf. In two weeks' time the battle in this World Championship will continue in the Bohemian region of the Czech Republic and more specifically in the spot Loket, which is famous for motocross riders.
