Kay de Wolf won the thrilling GP of Argentina in the MX2 class today. The Dutchman took the first victory of the year thanks to a series win and a second place. Triumph showed in its first GP that they have built a good bike because Mikkel Haarup stood proudly on the podium today.
The first series was won by Simon Laengenfelder. He held off Kay de Wolf and Thibault Benistant. Lucas Coenen crashed early and went to the pits with a twisted thumb. He would appear at the starting gate again in series two.
The holeshot in that second series was for Mikkel Haarup on the Triumph. He went wide in the first corner, leaving Simon Laengenfelder and Hakon Osterhagen behind him. Lucas Coenen had started fourth while his stablemate Kay de Wolf started in P5.

Reigning world champion Andrea Adamo was pushing behind De Wolf to move up a spot, but that did not work immediately. Laengenfelder tried to get alongside Haarup after a few laps, but had to let Lucas Coenen pass. A few corners later, Coenen also passed Haarup.
Laengenfelder would take the lead a little later. Lucas Coenen lost his position again in the same lap by losing a track and going off the track. Haarup regained second place, but Coenen showed his resilience and fought his way back to P2.
Sacha Coenen, who started poorly, was in P13 halfway through the race. Kay de Wolf kept an eye on everything from P4 and drove a very sophisticated race. Lucas Coenen then spotted leader Laengenfelder and attacked. Coenen took the lead, but the German struggled quite a bit.
Then Laengenfelder Haarup came to visit. The Dane passed on lap 13 and suddenly finished in a great second place. Lucas Coenen had meanwhile created a lead of about four seconds.
Kay de Wolf was told on a pit board that he could win the GP if he could move up one spot and matched the Dane on the last lap. A few bends before the finish, leader Coenen fell and has to leave the series victory to Wolf. Kay de Wolf wins a GP MX2 for the second time and is the first leader in the standings. Mikkel Haarup gave Triumph its first podium finish and thus writes history for the British brand. The devastated Lucas Coenen finished third in this series.
