IIn the column #Watdoejijnou MXMag.nl looks at what former motocross riders are doing today. Their family life and their current work. How do they look back on their careers, the highs and lows. This month we have a conversation with Rick Folkers. After a successful career with the youth, he got a taste for the microphone.

MXMag: Briefly introduce yourself:
RF: “My name is Rick Folkers, I am now 27 years young and, as a native of Drenth, I currently live in Friesland. Together with friend Romana and our daughter Vanessa.”
MXMag: What do you do for a daily living these days?
RF: “I work as a specialist cleaner and at the weekends I am on the road as a folk singer.”
MXMag: How do you look back on your motocross career?
RF: “I have had a good career, but I got far too little out of it due to a lack of mentality and discipline. Something I can only blame myself for, but you only see that when it is too late.”
MXMag: The highlight of your career?
RF: “I managed to win two youth titles and was able to participate in a number of Grand Prix.”
MXMag: The low point of your career?
RF: “During the KNMV ONK at the Rhenen circuit I suffered a serious knee injury. That cruciate ligament injury brought 2013 to a premature end.”
MXMag: Best bike ever ridden?
RF: “The 450 Ties Pol Suzuki RMZ2017, that was great though!”
MXMag: What is your view on the current motocross world?
RF: “This has changed very quickly in recent years, it is all about money nowadays, which I don't think benefits our sport. Unfortunately, it is no longer the same as it was 10-15 years ago when you still had fantastic youth competitions. I can still remember those wonderful youth weekends where riders from different countries took action without heavy pressure on their shoulders.”
MXMag: Thank you very much for your cooperation!
RF: “You're welcome! Nice that you thought of me.”
