IIn the column #Watdoejijnou MXMag.nl looks at what former top motocross riders are doing today. Their family life and their current work. How do they look back on their careers, the highs and lows. This month we have former GP winner Kevin Wouts.

Briefly introduce yourself:
Kevin Wouts: “My name is Kevin Wouts, I am 29 years old and I live in Hoboken just below Antwerp. I have now stopped racing full-time for three years.”

What do you do for your daily sandwich these days?
Wouts: “Just like Sven Breugelmans, I work in the port of Antwerp, but I work at a different terminal.”

How do you look back on your motocross career?
Wouts: “It was a great time, I dare say the best time of my life. The childhood years were of course great and relatively carefree. I rode for the KNMV for many years and, as I said, I enjoyed it so much!”

The highlight of your career?
Wouts: “My victory in Valkenswaard, in 2012 I won the first MX3 Grand Prix of the season at the Eurocircuit. Furthermore, in 2016 I finished fifth in the European 250cc Championship and in the same year I won the Belgian MX2 Championship.”

The low point of your career?
Wouts: “The neck hernia in 2017 which more or less brought an early end to my career. I rode in British service with Lombard Express Suzuki UK but after the first race the complaints started. Very unfortunate, but unfortunately it was not meant to be.”

Best motorcycle ever ridden?
Wouts: “I have always enjoyed riding the KTM, which engine it doesn't matter, both the 250cc and 450cc.”

How do you view the current motocross world?
Wouts: “What I find worst and especially disappointing is how little support our youth in Belgium receives from the federation. This clearly happens a lot more in our neighboring countries and I expect that they will enjoy it for years to come. For the rest, I am still following everything closely and I am seriously impressed by the level that continues to rise every year.”

Thank you for your cooperation!
Wouts: Thank you too!
