EOne of the most striking appearances in the Zeelandhallen of Goes was Nancy Van de Ven, not only because of her looks, but perhaps even more because of the speed that the still only 16 year old lady displayed. The Zeeland Grand Prix rider managed to achieve a great 5th place on Saturday and this in the SX2 class. A class in which the 250cc 4-stroke was overrepresented and she held her own with her trusted 125cc 2-stroke machine!
MXM: Nancy, you more than hold your own here on this supercross track in a men's race... Are you not interested in the major international women's supercross?
NVDV: Yes, certainly, for example this weekend there was a competition in Leipzig where the ladies had their own series. But I had already registered here and this is a bit of a home race for me, so I prefer to ride here.
MXM: This upcoming season you will compete again on a 125cc Van De Laar Yamaha, do you think you will benefit from that?
NVDV: I'm not sure if I would go faster with a 250cc four-stroke, it's heavier and sometimes that bike makes me feel like it's riding with me. While I am completely in charge of the 125cc two-stroke, I do what I want with it. So for myself another year of 125cc is the best decision.
MXM: Last season you were the surprise, with your 5th place in the final rankings. Are you aiming even higher now or do you just want to confirm?
NVDV: A lot of big names are returning to competition. I just hope to be able to ride in the top 5 again. That would be nice and maybe a podium somewhere in a Grand Prix, because unfortunately that did not happen in 2013.
MXM: Just like the men, the women will start in Qatar in 2014, what is your view on that?
NVDV: Really stupid! If you don't want to ruin your championship right away, you have to travel to that first Grand Prix in Qatar. You almost become obliged. If the organizations really want a Grand Prix in Qatar, put it last in the calendar so that everyone can decide for themselves whether they want to spend the tons of budget to travel.
