TCoincidence or not, but Chad Reed, the veteran driver, won the retro night competition in Anaheim. James Stewart was second and Ken Roczen, who takes back the lead, was third.
The fastest start in the final went to Ryan Dungey ahead of Nick Wey, Stewart, Villopoto, Roczen and Reed. Wey was soon remanded and Dungey opened a small rift. There was a nice battle for second place between Stewart, Villopoto and Roczen, who made a big impression. Reed was able to maintain the connection the entire time and kept an eye on things. On the seventh lap, Dungey crashed in the whoops and dropped to seventh place. Stewart took the lead but with Roczen and Villopoto in his wake he was unable to make a gap. Villopoto outwitted Roczen and went looking for Stewart. In the battle for the lead, Stewart and Villopoto came into contact with each other and the reigning champion fell.
This allowed Roczen and Reed to connect with Stewart. Reed saw his opportunity and first passed Roczen and then outpaced Stewart. Reed rode again like he did in his glory years and took his first victory in a long time. Stewart came second and Roczen third. Brayton finished fourth and Dungey crashed into Villopoto in the last corner. Both crashed, but in the end Villopoto was able to cross the finish line in fifth place.
In the championship standings, Roczen again takes the lead from Villopoto. He now has a 1 point lead over the reigning champion. Reed follows in third at 3 points, Dungey is fourth with the same number of points as Reed and Brayton is fifth, five points behind. So it will be exciting!
