Clement Desalle is in his best form of the season. The Walloon proved this once again today in the English Matterley Basin. With a second and a first place, Desalle won his third GP in a row, his fourth already this season. In the final standings, Desalle preceded his teammate Kevin Strijbos, who came third twice, and Evgeny Bobryshev.
In the first heat, Desalle was the fastest. He got Cairoli on his wheel and they fought for the win for a few laps. Cairoli eventually came out on top and won the first heat, an ideal way to win his seventh title. Desalle came second and Strijbos third. Bobryshev finished fourth and Ken de Dycker rounded out the top 5. Jeremy van Horebeek saw his podium ambitions go up in smoke right at the start when he crashed and had to start last. Van Horebeek crashed again during the heat and was eventually classified 22nd. Roelants came 15th in this heat.
In the second manche Cairoli had the best start ahead of Desalle and Joel Roelants. Cairoli made an early mistake and was knocked back a few places. Desalle took over the command and after 1 lap the top 3 was completely Belgian. Roelants did not feel at ease on the circuit and steadily fell back. At the front Desalle was able to maintain a small gap to Van Horebeek. Bobryshev was already strong in third place and he managed to keep a rising Cairoli at bay. A few laps before the end Cairoli had to step aside with technical problems. He could not resume the race and gave up. Kevin Strijbos, who was eleventh after 1 lap, rode another great race. Two laps before the end he managed to take over third place from Bobryshev with a daring jump. Paulin crossed the line in fifth place followed by Ken de Dycker. Joel Roelants drove into the pit lane and gave up.
