Antonio Cairoli has become the overall winner of the Latvian Grand Prix. With a second place and a series win he was able to take the victory at the expense of his teammate Ken De Dijcker. Big Ken won the first series and came second behind Cairoli in the second series. But because the second series is decisive, the world champion still took the victory in Kegums. Clement Desalle came third in the final standings.
Antonio Cairoli started second behind his teammate Ken De Dijcker in the first race. But he could never threaten De Dijcker for the victory in the opening race. In the second race he only had to tolerate front starter Rui Goncalves in front of him, but then the road was completely open for Cairoli and he rode to the race victory and the final victory. Antonio Cairoli dedicated this victory and the flowers to his birthday girlfriend Jill Cox.
Ken De Dijcker narrowly missed out on the grand prix victory in Latvia. In the first race he took the holeshot and rode unchallenged to victory. In the second race he had to admit his teammate Cairoli was the better man. De Dijcker tried again in the second part of the race, but in vain he had to leave the win to Cairoli.
The Rockstar Energy Suzuki rider Clement Desalle did not ride such a remarkable race. With two third places he did take the third podium place. But could not pose a threat to the KTM Red Bull boys at any time.
Frenchman Gautier Paulin had to give up some points to leader Cairoli in Latvia. At the start of the first series he was almost knocked off his pedestal by Cairoli. Paulin had to start almost last and still managed to get a fifth place out of the fire. In the second series he came fourth ahead of his teammate Van Horebeek.
Jeremy Van Horebeek took fifth place in the final standings in Latvia. With a fourth and fifth place in the series he scored as many points as his teammate Paulin. Van Horebeek is currently in a good flow and is increasingly settling into the top five.
Kevin Strijbos finished seventh in the final standings. The man from Wuustwezel also felt quite at home on the somewhat sandy surface. With a sixth and seventh place he was also nicely in the top ten each time.
Monster Yamaha rider Joel Roelants crashed at the start of the first race. He was the very last to return to the track and the Grobbendonk native could not do better than fifteenth place. In the second race, things went better from the start and he finished ninth. This immediately earned him tenth place in the final standings of the Grand Prix.
