NAfter a weekend of rest, we had the fifth race of the Lucas Oils AMA Motocross Championship in Budds Creek. Ryan Dungey took his second win of the outdoor season in Maryland. Villopoto was still the strongest in the first race, but Dungey took the second race and the subsequent day's victory. In the 250 class, Blake Baggett won his first of the season. Ken Roczen was struck by illness the week before Budds Creek and therefore did not start in good shape. Fortunately, he was able to limit the damage somewhat and remains the leader in the standings.

Of course we got another duel between Ryan Villopoto and Ryan Dungey in the 450 class. In the first series the victory went to Ryan Villopoto, who took over the lead from fast starter Mike Alessi on the first lap. Ryan Dungey took second place but also suffered a serious blow halfway through the series that took him some time to recover from. Fortunately for Dungey, his lead was big enough over third man Mike Alessi.
This Mike Alessi took the holeshot again for Dungey in the second series. Ryan Villopoto was not doing well and had to chase his biggest competitor Ryan Dungey. But Dungey was in the lead from the first lap and immediately pulled out all the stops. Villopoto would eventually end up seventeen seconds behind series winner Dungey. Third place went to Malcolm Stewart, James Stewart's younger brother.
For Ryan Dungey it was his second victory of the day in the 2013 Lucas Oils AMA Motocross Championship.

We were looking forward to the KTM duo Roczen-Musquin again. In the first heat it was Marvin Musquin who quickly took the lead. Ken Roczen, on the other hand, was only in tenth place after the first lap. The current leader in the standings Roczen corrected this fairly quickly and drove towards Musquin. But Blake Baggett was also part of Roczen's wheel. So we had a battle with three at the front. But it was the Kawasaki pilot Blake Baggett who took the measure of the KTM duo and took his first series victory of the season. Marvin Musquin was able to hold off his teammate Roczen and finished second in this open series.
In the second series it was Baggett who started better than Roczen and Musquin. But it was Eli Tomac who provided the surprise, starting thirteenth he started his advance. Musquin, Roczen, Hahn, Baggett and Durham had to make do and Tomac won the second series with a ten second lead over Baggett. This second place was enough for Blake Baggett to take his first victory of the year. The KTM duo fared less well in this second series. Ken Roczen finished sixth and Marvin Musquin took seventh place.
