NAfter missing out on victory in his home Grand Prix last week in France, Gautier Paulin managed to win the Italian Grand Prix in the lion's den. Paulin did it with style and beat Antonio Cairoli in a direct duel in the second series. Our compatriot Clement Desalle did win the first series, but had bad luck in the following series. Ken De Dijcker came in a great second in the final standings and Jeremy Van Horebeek just missed out on the podium with a fourth place.
Clement Desalle in his way…
Antonio Cairoli also took the holeshot in the first series in his home Grand Prix ahead of Boog, Desalle and De Dijcker. But the party for the numerous Italian fans did not last long. Because in the second lap Cairoli made a mistake and fell back to fourth place. We also immediately got a new leader in Clement Desalle, who also got two compatriots in his wheel with Ken De Dijcker and Kevin Strijbos. Antonio Cairoli was therefore forced to chase. But the Italian was a little too enthusiastic and made a second mistake. In the meantime, Desalle had already been able to build a nice lead over second man De Dijcker. For third place we did see a nice duel with Van Horebeek, Paulin and Cairoli. Gautier Paulin first took the measure of Van Horebeek and a little later Cairoli did it again. So The Jerre from third place to fifth. Clement Desalle rode unthreatened to victory ahead of Ken De Dijcker. Cairoli still wanted to claim third place, but Paulin thought differently and did not let the Italian come near him anymore. Kevin Strijbos who had started well would finish seventh and Joel Roelants gave up on the fifth lap.

Paulin wins prestige duel with Cairoli…
Gautier Paulin took the holeshot in this second series ahead of Xavier Boog and Antonio Cairoli. Clement Desalle is in tenth place. Ken De Dijcker immediately passed Boog and Cairoli into second place in the second lap. But Jeremy Van Horebeek is also about Cairoli. The defending champion is not really spared from his own people. It takes until the tenth lap that Cairoli can go back over Van Horebeek. At the front it is still Paulin who sets the pace for De Dijcker, Cairoli and Van Horebeek. Clement Desalle is in fifth place, some distance from the top four. Ten minutes to go and Cairoli, who has found his drive, sits with his teammate Ken De Dijcker. Cairoli passes his teammate fairly quickly and starts hunting for leader Paulin. Meanwhile, the winner of the first series Clement Desalle is out with mechanical problems. Only three laps to go and Antonio Cairoli, who is being praised by the home crowd, is on the wheel of leader Paulin. So we get a blood-curdling conclusion to this second series. At the start of the last two laps, Cairoli places his KTM land on Paulin's Kawa. But the Frenchman reacts immediately and immediately puts Cairoli behind him. The Italian public goes completely crazy with the Paulin-Cairoli match. But the Frenchman keeps a cool head and still wins this prestige match against Cairoli. De Dijcker comes in third ahead of Jeremy Van Horebeek. Kevin Strijbos achieved seventh place and Joel Roelants finished sixteenth in this second series.
