In Hangtown Ken Roczen won the first national of the season with a convincing double victory. Roczen, now called 'King Kenny' in the American press, won both heats in a dominant way. In the first heat Roczen passed Tomac, Musquin and Baggett to take the lead. He won this heat ahead of Tomac, Baggett and Musquin. Zach Osbourne finished ninth in this heat
In the second moto Baggett took the lead early but Roczen anticipated and passed the reigning champion before the end of the first lap. Roczen built up a small lead and it turned out to be enough to hold off a still rising Baggett in the final phase. Tomac was a distant third, Musquin was fourth and Osbourne was fifth.

The big boys were looking forward to seeing how James Stewart could return after a disappointing supercross season. Stewart showed that he wants to go for it and took the fastest start in both motos. We briefly saw the big duel between Stewart, Dungey and Villopoto, but in both heats it was Villopoto who quickly took the lead and rode to victory unthreatened. Dungey finished second in both heats and Stewart finished third on the podium. Chad Reed was ill and finished tenth in the first moto, but had to retire completely exhausted in the second.
