GAutier Paulin has taken his second Grand Prix victory of the season in the Portuguese Agueda. Paulin was the strongest in the first series and finished second in the second series. The leader in the intermediate standings of the world championship Antonio Cairoli came second ahead of our compatriot Clement Desalle. In the intermediate standings after six races Cairoli has a lead of 38 points on Gautier Paulin and 53 points on Clement Desalle.
Series 1
Antonio Cairoli took the lead ahead of Gautier Paulin and Clement Desalle. Ken De Dijcker crashed in the second corner and Van Horebeek was nicely in fourth place. At the front, the trio Cairoli, Paulin and Desalle immediately pulled away from the rest of the pack. In the sixth round we got a new leader with Gautier Paulin. Clement Desalle had to increasingly let go of the role of the leaders. Antonio Cairoli did not let Paulin ride more than two seconds ahead and increased the pressure in the last ten minutes. In the very last round, Cairoli wanted to attack Paulin, but ended up in the wrong lane and crashed spectacularly. Fortunately without any harm for Cairoli, only the front brake had broken. Paulin rode to the win in the first race ahead of Desalle and unlucky Cairoli. Van Horebeek finished a fine fifth, De Dijcker seventh, Strijbos tenth and Roelants was flagged off in twelfth place.
Series 2
The Holeshot was again for Antonio Cairoli ahead of Philippaerts and Paulin. Furthermore, our compatriots Van Horebeek, Desalle and De Dijcker were there. Clement Desalle was soon in third place and so we got the three main players of the first series back in the top three. But Van Horebeek and De Dijcker also managed to join the leading group. Van Horebeek made a mistake just before halfway through the race and so De Dijcker ended up in fourth place. At the front, Cairoli kept up the pace so that neither Paulin nor Desalle could attack. At the start of the last two laps, Desalle comes right up to Paulin's wheel. But when they jump over the big table mountain together, things go wrong for our compatriot a little later. Desalle gets a butt-whip and goes over his handlebars. Ken De Dijcker takes advantage of this and takes over third place. Carioli wins the second series ahead of Paulin and De Dijcker. Clement Desalle still finishes fifth after his spectacular fall. Van Horebeek finished sixth, Strijbos ninth and Joel Roelants finished fourteenth.
