HThere will be a party tonight and tomorrow at KTM. This weekend the entire motocross event was really dominated by the Austrian manufacturer. In the States Dungey and Musquin made sure of a first double and also in Arco di Trento it was all orange all over. Herlings and Tixier triumphed in the MX2 class and in the MX1 class Cairoli took the GP victory ahead of Ken de Dycker and Gautier Paulin…
Today Cairoli easily won the 57th GP of his career, equaling Joël Smets in the history books. The Sicilian took the lead from start to finish in both heats. In the first moto he kept Paulin and Desalle at a close but comfortable distance and in the second moto De Dycker was the ideal buffer for other threats.
A crash at the start of the second moto, involving Searle, Desalle and Paulin, meant that the KTM riders had no immediate competitors in their area. Desalle left last and eventually crossed the finish line in 8th place, good for fourth place in the final standings. Paulin had to settle for fourth place in the second moto, just behind Max Nagl, and Kevin Strijbos, who finished fifth in the standings, also finished fifth in the final moto.
Cairoli is once again doing well in the World Cup standings. With 192 points, he is 37 points ahead of Ken de Dycker, who takes over second place from Clement Desalle, who has 149 points. Kevin Strijbos is in fifth place with 120 points.
