Antonio Cairoli won the Dutch Grand Prix in Valkenswaard. It was the reigning world champion's fifth victory on the well-known Eurocircuit. Our compatriot Ken De Dijcker finished second in the final standings. Ken took third place in the first series and won the second series ahead of Cairoli. The third man on the podium was Russian Evgeny Bobryshev.
Antonio Cairoli was in the lead immediately after the start in the first heat ahead of Bobryshev and De Dijcker. Clement Desalle crashed during the start and Jeremy Van Horebeek also made a mistake on the first lap. The 24MX Honda pilot Jens Getteman also disappeared from the race after a few laps. Ken De Dijcker, on the other hand, felt confident and took the lead from Cairoli halfway through the series. But unfortunately this did not last long, because two laps later De Dijcker made a mistake and fell back to third place. Antonio Cairoli now kept a tight rein and won the first series ahead of Bobryshev and De Dijcker.
In the second series it was Evgeny Bobryshev who took the holeshot ahead of our compatriots Kevin Strijbos and Ken De Dijcker. We find Cairoli in fifth place. In the second lap De Dijcker immediately took the lead and immediately set a hellish pace. Of course it was also the signal for Cairoli to take action. With six laps to go we already had the reigning world champion in second place. Ken De Dijcker had already built up a nice lead. But knowing Cairoli he didn't stop there and started the chase. For De Dijcker it was an exciting final lap on the Eurocircuit. At the finish the difference was just over two seconds and De Dijcker took his first series victory of the season.
Our compatriots… Clement Desalle did not get further than eighth and fifth place in the series and so this Grand Prix had not been a success for the Suzuki pilot. His teammate Kevin Strijbos rode an unremarkable first heat, but took a good third place in the second heat. Joel Roelants crashed twice in the first series and only finished fourteenth, in series two Joel finished tenth. Jeremy Van Horebeek finished eleventh in the first heat, but had to retire in the second heat due to mechanical failure.
Our northern neighbor Marc De Reuver was only able to score two World Cup points in the first series.
