De time goes by, although in these cold dark and motocross-less days time does not go by fast enough. Let it be 2013 soon, a new motocross season. Where talents fly at each other's throats on the circuit and go for a pint next to the circuit. After discussing ten talents, today we will discuss the last five. WHAT? Are there still talents in Belgium? Yes! if you look around carefully, even more than the 15 I have discussed now. And then I am not even talking about 85cc pilots. I will let someone with more knowledge of the subject make that analysis, bmb youth coach Yves Devlaminck. To then talk about the last five who conclude this series, their names are: Nathan Renkens, Jeffrey Dewulf, Daymond Martens, Bryan Angels en Cedric Grobben.
Nathan Renkens is without a doubt a great talent. He has shown good results on his 85cc and is making the transition to the 125cc quite smoothly. Unfortunately he got hurt in early August. As a result, he was unable to complete his season. But until that moment he was involved in a battle for the Beloften title at the BMB and he had achieved good results during the European Championship 125cc. Next year Nathan will only be 15 years old. He is generally one year to two years ahead of his generation. Provided proper guidance, I see Nathan having a very bright future here.
Back to the 4-strokes. Jeffrey Dewulf is a good pilot who 3e became during the BK MX2. Jeffrey has not shown much at international level this year. He was allowed to fill in for Kevin Fors during the Lierop GP, but he failed to score any points. And if you leave out Jeffrey Herlings for a moment, you can say that Dewulf has not made a fool of himself after all. Can we expect Jeffrey Dewulf to ride world championships? I do not think so. But he will definitely compete for INTER titles in the future.
Now we are going to discuss Nathan Renkens' nemesis, Daymond Martens. Until Nathan's injury, he was in the lead in the rankings for the Beloften title. Daymond may have been on a 250f, but you still have to respect his performance. He held off a super talent who was offered accommodation by a GP team. Daymond has not ridden much at international level yet. At 17 years old, he still has time for that. Although I am curious to see how well he would do during the MX2 European Championship.
Last year he was Belgian 85cc champion and this year he's flying around on a 125cc. We are talking about Bryan Engelen. Next year, in January, he will be 16 years old. Provided a good winter, I see the ex 85cc champion going far in 2013. He has already proven this year that he can be fast. For example, he has already won a series among the promises during a BMB competition. Another year of 125cc and going for the promises 125cc title seems like a smart choice to me.
Finally, the last talent of our series, Cedric Grobben. With his 125cc he fought among the MX2 nationals this year. That in itself is a great achievement, the fact that he is 5e was in that championship and won 4 matches certainly commands respect. It is not clear to me what Cedric will do next year. But I am convinced that we will see him at the front and that he will make a step forward this winter.
15 talents have now been discussed. We now know how old they are, what they have already accomplished and where we will see them working in the coming years. But who is Belgium's biggest talent now? Who will win 'Belgium's got talent MX edition'? If you go to the main page you can choose from our poll on the right. You can choose 3 names.
