IIn Limburg Lommel, Germany became the overall winner of the MXON. 30.000 ecstatic motocross fans watched Max Nagl, Ken Roczen and Marcus Schiffer ride the perfect race today. Our compatriots were well on their way to victory, but after a thrilling final round, they had to admit defeat to the German team. Defending champions United States had a hard time staying upright in the deep sand, but still finished in third place. Italy missed the podium by one point.
Tony Cairoli was the hero in the MX1 class. In the first moto the Italian easily rode to victory ahead of Paulin and Nagl. Clement Desalle finished fourth and Jeremy van Horebeek became the second MX2 rider in 10th place. First MX2 rider was Ken Roczen in fifth place.
In the second heat things went completely wrong for the Belgians. After a good start in fourth and fifth place, Keeno came into contact with BamBam Barcia early on. He bent his gear lever and could no longer shift gears. However, he continued to fight and had to give up second place to Tanel Leok in the final phase. Jeremy van Horebeek started strongly but soon heard a strange noise coming from the KTM. Two laps later he was on the sidelines with a broken engine. So Jeremy could do nothing but leave very disappointed and hope for a super third series from his team. The series victory in this round went to the unflappable Jeffrey Herlings, who destroyed everyone.
In the final round it was all or nothing for Germany, Belgium and the USA. Cairoli got the best start and took off straight away. The Dutch team was less fortunate. Both Herlings and De Reuver crashed in the first corner and had to start from the back. Our Belgians had started strongly and it soon became clear that the battle for victory would come down to a few points. However, Max Nagl controlled the situation and seemed to have something up his sleeve, meaning our compatriots had to settle for second place. USA finished third.
On the podium, the winners received the cup from Prince Philip, who had noticeably enjoyed himself during the exciting and atmospheric final heat.
