Eand cloudy and quite cold Valley basin circuit hosted the 16th and final round of the 2012 MX1 World Championship. Brand new Belgian motocross champion Ken Dycker finished seventh overall in Germany and successfully finished the world championship in fifth place. This confirmed the 'bear from Lubbeek' his status as a permanent fixture at the top of the Motocross World Championship, because this is already the fifth top-5 final ranking of his career.
The world's best motocross riders had to deal with windy conditions during the qualifying race on Saturday. Although De Dycker had a mediocre start, he still managed to find some good lines. Halfway through the race, the former German GP winner managed to take over sixth place from the wildcard rider Josh Coppins. Ken would also cross the line in sixth place, although in some parts of the track Teutschenthal had been taken care of in advance, the riders reacted with mixed feelings. De Dycker had a decent start during the opening heat. Ken rounded the first corner around 10th place. He then continued strong and managed to climb to fifth place.
Unfortunately, things went wrong in the third round of the second series. Keeno was stuck for a while, so he was only the last to get back on track. The 28-year-old Belgian had to settle for tenth place, although that certainly did not reflect his speed. In the first lap he was already 19th. Despite the few opportunities to catch up, De Dycker fought hard for the last valuable World Cup points of the 2012 season! The Red Bull KTM pilot managed to overtake his former teammate Coppins for 10th place and finished just over a second behind Christophe Pourcel.
Ken Dycker: “After more than a week of dealing with flu and fever, I didn't feel very fit. However, things went quite well in both heats. My seventh place in the GP and tenth and fifth positions in the heats were not really great, but it was actually in line with what I could expect under the circumstances. Overtaking proved to be a bit more difficult than normal in Teutschenthal on Sunday. My body also still felt like a truck had run over it because of the muscle and stomach pain I was experiencing! With a quiet week, that should all be a thing of the past next weekend for the MX of Nations.”

Ken De Dycker will defend his country's colors next weekend in Lommel in the world's largest motocross competition: the Motocross of Nations! In 2007 (Budds Creek) and 2008 (Donington), De Dycker reached the podium at the MXoN with the Belgian team. Each time he came second in his category.
