AIf you were there on Sunday, you saw that MAC Lierop is no ordinary club. We managed to visit (almost) everywhere. And then you see how well it is put together. Sunday morning there was a bit of panic: fake bracelets were discovered at the entrance. Two Lorejas who thought they would get in for free were intercepted. As a consolation prize they were “allowed” to enter after paying a surcharge. Chairman Pieter-Paul is strict, but fair.
The Hurkmans family, ex-bakingist Sies, wife and children stood in front of the catering industry in the VIP. Sies' smile never left his face all day long. ”Well, in previous years there has always been a broken cable, a plug that doesn't work, a fuse that blows in the tent. But this year we have done so well that I even have too many sockets.” And the Hurkmans family – just like all the other employees – continued at a brisk pace on Sunday evening. MAC Lierop does not end its match with the traditional clean-up, but with a party for all the helpers.
Our thanks also go to the toilet lady or gentleman. He ensured that the toilets remained in an orderly condition on Sunday evening and with sufficient paper. In small things one is great.
The quote of the day comes from my friend Kees de Omroeper. “The better teams are always looking for a driver who can compete in the top ten. Unfortunately, there are only ten," said Kees, who was overflowing with happiness yesterday with the masterful stunt of Jefke Herlings, who still has to turn eighteen at the end of the week. The sound sounded very impressive on Saturday. There was even a phone call that people in Helmond could hear what Léon and Kees were saying. Foolen pulled the slide a little closer and everyone was satisfied, including the flight control of Eindhoven Airport...
A man from Ammerzoden experienced the weekend of his life. He sat in the grandstand – two days of free drinks and snacks for 30 euros more – and close to the announcers. When we broached the subject of Davy Pootjes and the Junior World Championships, his day couldn't have been worse. He even treated them to an ice-cold mocha latte. Afterwards it turned out that this good soul had organized the festive decoration of the European and vice-world champion 85 cc. Would you like to bet that he will sit in the same seat again next year with his otherwise very friendly lady?
Guido Becchis' successor at Youthstream was completely distraught when he saw Kees' “wooden shoes”. The good man, responsible for the tribute and we do not yet know him by name, was immediately given the address of Twin Air, and the Dutch team will already be on the podium in Lommel. As if they were just a bunch of orange clogs (editor's note: for the Belgians: blocks). And the undersigned will deliver them to him.
