VFormer MX1 & MX2 World Champion Steve Ramon has always been someone who was 100% committed to his profession. With the recovery from his serious injury that he sustained during the Belgian Grand Prix last year, he shows what a perseverer this Steve Ramon is. With the damage he sustained during the heavy crash, the former Suzuki factory rider is slowly returning. But there is still a long way to go for a full recovery.

I recently met Steve Ramon and asked him about his recovery process and how he was feeling now. The two-time World Champion looked fit and well and was happy to be back at the races as a spectator, but also a bit disappointed because he can't ride himself.

Q: Steve, good to see you at the race. It's been almost a year since your crash in Lommel. How are you feeling now?
Ramon: Pretty good at the moment, one or two days a week I still go to the rehabilitation center, the body is getting better and better, the muscles are coming back and starting to get stronger.

Q: What are your biggest issues with your body that you currently have?
Ramon: Mostly nerve pains in the shoulders, I take medication for that, but it's not a nice feeling. I also miss a bit of feeling in my left leg, but on the other hand I can still cycle and walk a bit. And I've even ridden a motorbike a few times, just for fun of course. That's all.

Q: I've heard rumors that you're thinking about getting back into riding, but what's your goal right now?
Ramon: Right now my goal is to get my body back in good shape and then we'll see. I miss riding of course. But it's definitely not the goal to come back in that race or at that time. I'll take it easy and see.

Q: You already had a great career with a lot of victories and of course the two world titles. Many riders can't achieve what you have now. There must have been a lot of happy moments in your career?
Ramon: Of course, I had many moments where I really enjoyed and felt very happy. I got what I could out of my career. Even with the accident, I am happy with what I achieved as a rider.

Q: Do you have a feeling of happiness or unhappiness? What I mean is that it could have been a lot worse, it was of course a terrible crash that you had.
Ramon: I feel happy and unhappy, happy that I'm still here, but unhappy that I'm not driving anymore, but that's life.
