NAfter the Grand Prix of Sweden we got a surprising turn in the MX1 World Championship. We are heading to the next GP with a new World Championship leader. On the sandy circuit of “Motocenter Zelta Zirgs” in Kegums, we will have the Grand Prix of Latvia on the program this weekend.
By the new leader we mean our compatriot Clement Desalle, who won in Sweden and immediately took over the lead in the World Cup. Clement Desalle turned a deficit of 47p into a small lead of 3p over the unlucky Italian.
Antonio Cairoli did something in Sweden that he had not done for years and posted a double zero score. As a result, Cairoli saw his competitors take a big step back, but also lost the leading position to Desalle.
Who also benefited from Cairoli's bad day was the Frenchman Christophe Pourcel. He started off a bit ill in Sweden, but still finished second behind Desalle.
Our other compatriots with Ken De Dijcker and Kevin Strijbos are given a somewhat familiar sandy surface under their wheels in Kegums. Kenoo is still looking for his first podium finish, while Strijbos was on the podium for the second time in Sweden. Hopefully they can fight for a podium place on Sunday. Our northern neighbors are looking forward to Marc De Reuver, who performed well in the previous GP.
