IIn the Italian Fermo, the Dutchman Jeffrey Herlings won the third GP of the season in the MX2 class. Herlings won both heats and strengthened his leading position in the intermediate standings of the World Championship. The American Michael Leib (Yamaha) surprisingly came second and a regular Jeremy van Horebeek (KTM) came third in the final standings with a second and a fourth place. Red Bull-KTM promise Jordi Tixier achieved his best result ever and came fourth.
Joël Roelants (Kawasaki) had made an excellent recovery after a poor start in the first series. The Grobbendonian had advanced up to third place, but then he had a bad fall and had to give up. After that crash, Roelants suffered from a splitting headache and had to vomit. For fear of a concussion, Roelants did not start in the second series. A strong Kevin Fors took 4 World Championship points in 17th place. A massive crash at the start determined the face of the second moto. Van Horebeek lasted three laps as leader before Leib took over. Both Herlings and Searle returned to the front after their crash. Herlings took his 2nd win of the day ahead of Searle and Leib. Van Horebeek finished fourth.
In the World Championship standings, Van Horebeek climbs to second place, now 30 points behind his teammate Herlings. Kawasaki riders Tommy Searle and Joel Roelants follow in third and fourth place respectively.
