NAfter the summer editions of the past years, the Valkenswaard GP today once again tied in with an old tradition: terrible weather! If the first series of the day did not take place under a more or less acceptable weather pattern, that changed drastically in the afternoon. However, the changing weather conditions had little or no influence on the winners. With Jeffrey Herlings in MX2 and Antonio Cairoli in the MX1, we can safely call them the “usual suspects”. However, there were also plenty of surprising results.

MX2: Who else but Herlings?

In the MX2, Jeffrey Herlings was immediately at the forefront. No surprise because that's what everyone expected. Van Horebeek and Searle were also immediately at the front. More surprising, however, was Jake Nicholls' second place. However, the Negaan JM Racing KTM rider would not hold onto his second position for long. Joël Roelants, who started poorly, was held up for a long time by Teillet but then made up ground again. While Van Horebeek lost speed, the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider dropped to third place. The leading trio was thus tied up. KTM factory rider Jordi Tixier confirmed his progress in the sand with a nice 6de place. Glenn Coldenhoff managed to get back to 15 after a fallde place. At the finish Jeffrey had a whopping 54 second lead over Tommy Searle.

After Christophe Pourcel's holeshot, Antonio Cairoli quickly claimed the lead. Steven Frossard seemed to be the only one capable of making things difficult for Tony. Three consecutive errors, some of them spectacular, cost Frossard his chance at victory. A regular Desalle took advantage and took second place, although the driven Frossard continued to fight for second place until the end. Paulin finished fourth ahead of the Belgian duo De Dycker and Strijbos. Evgeny Bobryshev had gone off hard, just like yesterday. A more exciting second moto seemed to be in the making after Desalle took the lead early. The Rockstar-Suzuki rider led ahead of Frossard, Cairoli and Christophe Pourcel. Frossard had no answer to Desalle's violence. Clément took 22 valuable points after a very regular race, Frossard finished third again. After a start in the sub-top, factory Honda rider Goncalves worked his way to the front and finished fourth. This time, despite a crash, De Dycker still finished 5thde for Strijbos.
